Education

At Haller Lake UMC, we believe that spiritual learning is a lifelong process, so we are all, regardless of our age, involved in education for the continuation of our spiritual growth and deepening of our faith. We know that everyone’s faith is individual and so there are an infinite number of ways that we keep learning. These are a few of the ways that occurs.

Children’s Sunday School

All volunteers with minors and staff pass a national background check. Volunteers and staff also receive training for children’s safety from predators. Our training can be found on the UMC Pacific Northwest Conference website here.

Pastor’s Class

The Pastor’s Class for adults meets on Zoom on Tuesdays at 4:00pm. Participants discuss books, spiritual practice, study materials, and reflect on their life experience together. Contact Pastor Laura for more information or the link.

Homework Club

Haller Lake UMC launched its successful tutoring ministry in 2010. The Homework Club helps students with their homework each Wednesday evening during the school year, meeting at the nearby apartment building where the children live. The 30 or so students are mostly in elementary school, with some middle school and high school students. Our volunteers enjoy getting to know the students and the satisfaction of making a difference in helping them succeed in school. During the summer, we follow up with a three day back-to-school Math Camp to review learning and prepare for school to start in a fun outdoor setting.

The Homework Club and Math Camp accept all volunteers who pass the background check and have an interest in helping children. If interested, please sign up in the Friendship Room, or contact Carol Jaeger.
